ADL’s Vs. IADL’s

As your loved ones age, sometimes the toughest decisions we have to make surround their independence. While our goal is to help your loved one live an independent, safe, and happy life, part of maintaining a high quality of life is determining their ability to complete daily tasks.

Dubbed ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) and IADLs (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living), our caregivers can determine the kinds of care needed based on your loved one's performance of these tasks. ADLs are considered the essential and basic tasks required to live, such as bathing, dressing, eating, etc. IADLs are a bit more complex than that. These self-care tasks require spatial, organizational, or critical thinking skills, such as household chores, managing personal finances, cooking, etc. While IADLs are not required for basic survival, it is a large determining factor in whether your loved one can live independently without assistance.
